For as far back as I can remember, I had been actively involved with fandoms ever since I first got the internet.
The internet first came to me around 1998. A few months on it I discovered a sight called CrashCorner....where various artists and fan fiction writers converged to share their own Crash Bandicoot creations.
It was the first fandom I got into. And after being there for a while; I eventually ran the site until it eventually fell into obscurity.
But it was there I first got into fan character making and fan character writing.
Now for the Crash Bandicoot fandom and every other fandom I got into after that; I have established a few "Flagship Characters." They're basically the main representations of my involvment in the fandom. They're the 'Marios' and 'Links' out of all my OCs to represent me in the fandom.
Starting with Crash Bandicoot; it has been ages since I showed anyone some of my true Crash OCs. That may change soon when I create a pic showcasing them. Thankfully the N. Sane Trilogy revived interest in Crash ten fold. And so I am bringing them back in all their glory.
The one i wish to introduce here as my flagship Crash OC is Shen Lo Ken; the karate warrior fox from the island of Japan.
Admittedly when I first made him; he didn't fit into the Crash universe too well. He was just some random furry out of nowhere that wasn't even created by Dr. Cortex.
Recently I am re-writing his backstory. Turns out he; along with his two brothers Fei and Sensui were evolved by a Japanese female scientist who found them next to their dead fox mother. She wanted to enhance her scientfic research but never had time to marry or have kids. So she decided to combine her work with child rearing by evolving the three fox cubs into anthropomorphised creations. Their evolution was gradually as they grow up like human children do; and a result the three brothers had three outlooks on life.
Shen Lo Ken is the more reserved and stoic of the brothers. Fei Wu Ken is the more carefree and lighthearted. Sensui Go Ken on the other hand is the most cold, distant...and sinister.
I haven't figured out the scientist's name yet. Let's just say she was like Cortex and Brio and interested in evolving animals into human-like beings. But she did it more for her love of them rather than some world domination plot.
The story is still being developed; but through some tragic happenings; Shen found himself wound up on Wumpa Island. There he found Crash, Coco and Crunch Bandicoot and quickly befriended them. Coco in particular showd interest in Shen as she wanted to become his pupil and have him teach her the martial arts. He agreed and thus he became Coco's sensei.
He also has great respect for Aku Aku who he constantly refers to as "Master." He refers to Crash and Crunch as "Brothers" and Coco as "Coco-San." Coco always has a habit of calling him "Mr. Shen." (Even though that's not his last name; it sticks better than Ken. XD)
And speaking of Ken....I'm not going to hide the fact Shen Lo Ken looks very much like a fox version of Ryu. Street Fighter had a play in designing my characters back in the Crash days. His mannerisms also seem like that of Ryu. XD Yeah I was into ripping off character designs back in the day. I even created a Crash OC that looked like fox Alucard from Symphony of the Night named Demonarc.
It wasn't long after Crash Bandicoot that I was introduced to Sly Cooper once I got fully enveloped in the net. And not long after Sly Cooper I got introduced to Deviantart. It was around 2002 or so that the site launched; and I had been here ever since. So it's been like 15 years already. o.o How the time really flies.
Anyways; I ended up creating a myriad of Sly Cooper Ocs. Some of which came and went....like my Crash OCs. In the end I hung onto the ones I knew would have appeal: all of them female. XD Sly Cooper is definitely abouting sexing up the female furry. But of all my main females OCS (Mai Ling, Sarah Brendhart, Mindy Gardoe and Tess Morblung) which one would come to represent me the most.
Ultimately I picked Mai Ling to represent me. She is constantly referred to as my most attractive OC. And like Shen; Street Fighter definitely had some influence in her design. A lot of people compare her to Chun Li. You would be correct in that assumption. Chun Li influenced her design.
Mannerisms...not so much. Mai is not a police officer (....yet.) She is actually an assassin-for-hire part of an international assassins guild. During her tenure there she had an affair with its newly "elected" leader Ali Zavier. The affair was torrid as she found him both repugnant and repulsive; yet also strangely alluring in his mannerisms and skills. Ultimately Mai knew the guild was in worse hands under Ali; and set out to dissolve it. During this time she found out Ali had another insidious plan that went beyond the guild. And it involved Interpol.
Mai's character has changed numerous times. I made her a friend of Neyla hoping to make her a link to reviving Neyla in future stories. But the more I thought about it; the more I thought how ultimately pointless it is. Having Neyla die as a villain only to come back as a sort of good guy makes for a rather weak redemption idea. As far as Sly fans know; Neyla's gone and she's likely not coming back.
It was originally gonna be some kind of revenge story where Mai tried to get back at Carmelita for killing her friend. But giving Mai's profession and the fact she's supposedly skilled in a multitude of weapons and hand-to-hand combat; her drive for revenge would greatly mess Carmelita up and that would make her a real c**t. Plus given she uses a sword; it would've been bloody too. Carmelita is a very skilled fighter and cop. But against a remorseless assassin with equal amounts of experience on the field; she'd definitely have her hands full.
It could still work....but i definitely need to think better how to incorporate Mai's motivation to go after Carmelita without a "Revenge for Neyla" sub-plot bogging it down. It's ultimately pointless and I don't want people to hate Mai for trying to kill Carmelita.
Because she would eventually become a good guy.....yeah big shock. XD
Plus I want to show a more humorous side to Mai Ling: namely her sarcastic and pedantic nature. Especially how she trains Carmelita with her own brutally regimented training.
Now we come to perhaps my most currently well known and popular of my OCs. This of course is Lady Elizabeth Tepes Malmsteen of the TUFF Puppy fandom. Other TUFF OCs I made such as Lizzy McDinga and General Blitz and the Angels are also known; but it's Lady Malmsteen that is the most prominent of them. She's often regarded as one of the most well known TUFF Puppy OCs; something I am quite proud of.
And yet I've neglected her as of late. Though that is changing since my interest in Castlevania (above all things) has recently revived like Dracula himself. Castlevania was indeed a huge part of her inspiration as many of my pics of The Lady will show. Her gothic apparel, her vampiric origins, her castle and of course the great diversity of ghoulish creatures from folklore and myth that haunt her kingdom of Petsylvania.
I wanted her to be as much a part of the show as possible so I wrote her that way. It's own corny cheesy pun-filled way. But the more fans she attracted, the more ideas they had for her. Most of them over-the-top in terms of more action-oriented and character driven. And frankly, I am genuinely amused by this!! Those who have written more bad ass and sympathetic sides to her do tickle my fancy.
Some have even fallen in love with her like my own bro
. Ah how The Lady enjoys that foxy Kei. XD
From the original idea of the show itself; her plotline is pretty simple. She was designed to be the female villain alongside the male villains like Snaptrap, BirdBrain and The Chameleon. For a Hartman show, it never really utilized female villains. She was designed as such cause...it made since. Four animal types that make for cliche animal villains: rat, lizard, bird...and then bat. Makes sense. XD
And as a Hartman cartoon villainess goes; she would be over-the-top in terms of her own giant ego and vanity. How she talks down to people, how she bosses people around: all while sounding proper and Queen-like. Yet when she doesn't get her way; her hair-trigger temper can cause her to lose her demeanor. Especially when a certain feline crime fighter we all know and love gets between The Lady and Dudley Puppy. The fact she uses this dumb mutt for her plans but ultimately falls for him is amazing as the fact she has an essence draining crystal she uses to keep herself looking youthful and beautiful. And she's only 400 years old....still in her prime as far as vampires go. ;D
I have yet to make her debut comic thanks to countless life-interfering delays. Hopefully I make it soon; because I am definitely interested in progressing with her again.
And this leaves me with another character of mine from another fandom who enjoyed some popularity for a time himself. It's Sin "The Immoral Flame" from the 'Ratchet and Clank' fandom. This pyromaniac lombax with his fire abilities, dark trenchcoat and purple dreds made his debut in the fandom around the time I first played Ratchet and Clank in 2003.
He's also a rather old OC of mine I pushed to the way side. But he is someone I would love to visit again.
Namely he and his complex relationship with Ratchet. Blinded by his own "Lombax Patriotism" and trying to carry on Alister's work; he sees Ratchet as a traitor and bands together with other special-ability lombaxes and an evil "clank-like Robot" to spread terrorism across the galaxy. All this in the name of the dimension the lombaxes retreated to.
It's part of a deeper plot he isn't fully aware of; namely how stronger forces within the dimension are trying to bring the lombaxes back into the galaxy...but as the dominant species. There are forces that wish for lombaxes to rule the universe.
And to do this...Sin was unknowingly sent to obtain information on some very high powered mechs which he used for his campaign of terror.
Ratchet and his friends naturally try to stop him and his crew even though Sin insists he's doing it for the glory of the lombaxes.
It isn't until much later the truth is revealed and Sin is torn between what he believes is right or wrong. You see his fire ability "The Solar Flux" was infused with him since he was small. He was basically trained and raised to be like a weapon and not as a feeling being. This was thanks to his highly intolerant and biligerent foster father Colonel Tiberius Barge. Who....is also a rather tall lombax. Yes apparently not only do lombaxes differ in fur color; but sizes as well. Some like Sin are twice their size: six feet tall. Others like Barge even larger. Some are even as tall as polar bears.
We're not sure if all lombaxes were genetically modified this way or they just grew to various sizes naturally. But clearly; those who grew to monstrous proportions were used as soldiers and living weapons.
Sin's dual purpose in the fandom is both villain and antihero. He still blames Ratchet for holding the lombax race back; especially after what he did with Alister. Sin wants the lombaxes to make a glorious return; but his father instilled him a warped sense of patriotism that led Sin to become an intergalactic terrorists. Yet; it was all part of Barge's plan along with the higher ups in the lombax dimension.
And that's enough typing and exposition for now. XD
These are my four main Ocs from my four main fandoms.
Some of them you know fully; others you probably just met.
And hopefully I will expand on each of them more as my flagship characters for each fandom.
Shen Lo Ken, Mai Ling, Lady Malmsteen and Sin the lombax belong to me![shinragod :iconshinragod:]()
