This is part of a large drawing project I got going on for my contribution to the Video Game Art History Project here:
I volunteered to take on Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse.
For many reasons: one I am a huge Castlevania fan. Two; Castlevania 3 is among the best in the entire series. And three: it was the basis for the actually really good NetFlix series.
The project I am devising consists of a mixture of both the original game and the NetFlix series. I basically combined the characters on how they looked in-game and in the anime.
Trevor Belmont looks more like his anime counterpart then his game counterpart; but that was a necessity. The game simply made him look like a barely modified Simon Belmont sprite. The anime not only altered his look but gave him a personality to boot.
If anybody needs work here when I go back to refurbish this drawing though it's him. There's something off about the right side of his face that needs fixing; mainly how far his eye is away from his nose.
Another modified character who resembles her anime counterpart more is Sypha Belnades on the left. The anime had her hair shorter as opposed to her game sprite. I liked it shorter. But other than her haircut; her game and anime counterparts still look very similar.
Alucard on the right is more of the game character than the anime. In the anime; he's Alucard from Symphony of the Night....but nowhere near as powerful. In the game he basically looked like Dracula with darker hair instead of white. To me it made more sense to make his hair pitch black like in Castlevania 3. His whiter hair would have indicated he was alive for hundreds of years as evident of Symphony of the Night; when Dracula also had white hair instead of black. Also he's not dressed like Symphony of the Night Alucard. Instead of the gentlemanly gold trimmed aristocratic outfit; he's donning the classic vampire garb he had in Castlevania 3. And he is also using his main weapon in 3 which is the powerful orbs he releases from his hands instead of using his sword.
Finally at top is Grant Danasty. Now Grant wasn't introduced in Season 1. Season 2 comes out very soon; and there's glimpses of a new character that could very well be him. S othis design is straight from the game with no real alterations. And they probably will still remain.
Despite the detail of this piece; it is only 25% done.
I am making it like I did my Symphony of the Night Tribute piece:
There will be boss monsters from the game, there will be a castle and there will be Dracula.
More progress to come. But for now the heroes are done.
It's time to move onto the Boss Monsters.
Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, Alucard and Grant Danasty belong to Konami
