Mai Ling Different Styles MEME

Based off the MEME used from: :iconChaunzagorroth:'s MEME [link]

When it comes to doing stuff involving MEMEs or bios I always tend to use Mai Ling first out of all my OCs.
Probbly because she's a cat: and cats are so versatile when it comes to characterizing.

A bit more difficult when it comes to lombaxes or bats fer some reason.

NE Way this was fun. There's a few Hit N' Miss here.

Mai's Disney version pretty much looks the same as she normally does. Clearly one of the main inspirations behind this was Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet. (Essentially a space kitty.)

The Don Bluth one is a definite miss. I was going for the more feral and less humn-like approach such as Don's work in All Dogs go to Heaven and Balto. For some reason mking a male cat is easier in Don's style than a female.

The Craig McCracken version is probably the cutest. It's a Powerpuff Girl version of Mai. Now don't tell me this isn't something to squee over? X-3

Johnen Vasquez Mai Ling was fun because she looks like a deformed angry midget. Originally her hands and feet were larger. Luckily I changed that as I remembered everyone in Invader Zim has little or no hands/fingers at all.

I gotta laugh at Matt Groening Mai Ling since she definitely has a 'Patty and Selma' stage of indifference right now. Or at any moment she's gonna say "....seconded.:

Hanna Barbara Mai Ling is based off two types of females from Hanna Barbara: the first being the original Scooby Doo gals the other Swat Kats. It makes sense I picked some up from Swat Kats. The Scooby doo aspect fits in with Mai's pupils having no whites. In fact most human characters in Hanna Barbara cartoons had no whit pupils. (Unless they were intentionally designed goofy.) Mai's one of the more sexier designs in Hanna Barbara female anatomy: hence no whites in her eyes.

Max Fleischer Mai could be a bit sketchy on my part. Partly because it almost has a somewhat racial 'Dragon Lady' quality to her. When making a design for Mai in the Flesicher style: it was a mix of Fleischer's Betty Boop and Superman. Hence the big head on the moderately human-like body.

I think Mai is at her sexiest when I did the Tex Avery style. It's her eyes I think that spell it out. She looks like a cat from a Tom and Jerry cartoon Tom would go for. The bushy tail itself was mostly based off Sawyer from Cats Don't Dance. not an Avery creation mind you but definitely in the same spirit.

The funniest IMO is when I drew Mai Jim Davis style. Having her look like a grumpy big footed cat (who hates Mondays) made m smilea bit. I wonder how Garfield himself feels.

I was pleased how Hayao Miyazaki Mai came out. I got the eyes and face down just right. Her hair seems to have been taken directly off Haku from 'Spirited Away.' I guess the only fail here is the scabbard of her sword. It looks wierd fer some reason.

Took the pose for Chris Sander's version of Mai straight from Lilo's older sister Nani. The face and hair in particular were more rounded to imply the softness and cuddliness of Sander's style. While he did get sharper in 'How to Train Your Dragon'; the 'Lilo and Stitch' style worked better...and frankly made Mai look her most cat-like in any version I've made of her so far. I think it's her nose here.

Tim Burton's Mai Ling is on the right track but it's just too rigid and straight. Skinniness is key here along with exaggerated proportions such as her head. Yet I can't help but feel I kinda made it look like Kitty Katswell's head.

FAVORITE VERSION: Chris Sanders

LEAST FAVORITE VERSION: Don Bluth

FUNNIEST VERSION: Tie between Johnen Vasquez and Jim Davis

SEXIEST VERSION: Tex Avery

CUTEST VERSION: Craig McCracken

COULDA BEEN BETTER VERSION: Tim Burton
