This is my contribution to the Video Game History Collaboration:
I selected Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.
Previously I had done this tribute to the game for Halloween.
I noted in my artist's statement for the pic that while most of the bosses (including the big vamp Drac himself) were included in the tribute; not all of them made it. Thee Medusa Archer, the Bone Dragon King and The Doppelganger went to the cutting room floor.
So for my Game History contribution I decided to use one of the bosses who didn't make the tribute: The Doppelganger.
Specifically Trevor Belmont vs. The Doppelganger. In the tribute I couldn't fit him as all four playable characters of the game were present. I didn't have a way to show the shape shifting creature representing the four among them.
So I decided to have him go mano-e-mano with Trevor impersonating him.
The situation is always the same when you fave The Doppelganger as Trevor; he uses the full powered whip with the Cross Sub-Weapon. Without another character to switch with or a sub weapon (preferably the Holy Water) you can fire three times simultaneously; this fight is a very challenging one. The setting itself offered both an obstacle and a barrier when fighting the beast. The elevated platform is the only way to both avoid his attacks and jump over him.
The version of Trevor I used here is mostly what he looked like in my tribute; which also pays tribute ot how Trevor was depicted in the hit Netflix series. But it also pays tribute to how he kind of looked in Curse of Darkness too with that sweet trenchcoat type outfit. Curse of Darkness also figured heavily into the Netflix series; and I am guessing Season 3 (which they're working on apparently) will probably deal with that game as it was a direct sequel to Dracula's Curse.
These past two months I been doing so much Castlevania artwork featuring three of the most prominent Belmonts: Trevor, Simon and Richter. I still love the series very much and thanks to Netflix and the new Smash Game; the Belmonts shall be honored once more just as the Castlevania series should be.
Trevor C. Belmont belongs to Konami
