A lack of artwork on my part these past few weeks?
Well here's why. I have been busy on my college project for sculpture class.
It was a paper mache model of any subject of choosing; so long as we had a repetition of a single object three times.
Being the animal lover I am (and if you see some of my other artwork don't take THAT too literally xD) I wanted to sculpt an interesting type of animal. Sure enough, I had to pick the most intense thing to sculpt for a first project: Australian Thorny Devils.
Essentially Australia's version of the American horned Toad, I had a tiny little model of one that I had with me as far back as Cali. Yes; a few of my past collectibles made it over here to Missouri with me. And who would have guessed it would eventually be used as a reference to sculpt a work of art?
I know I didn't. But low and behold here it is: the three Aussie Devils running across the desert sands.
The one on the far left is emerging from the sand. I call him "Big Papa" since he's the largest of the three; and he's chasing what are pretty much his kids. You kids are in some deep trouble. XD
The middle one is my full scaled body version trying to outrun "Big Papa." We'll call him "Johnny." Johhny's only a lad...he really can't help it.
The final one is disappearing into the sand in the far right corner. I guess we'll call this one "Toady."
I like how when we went over these; someone in my class suggested it was like a loop; in which it seems to be one lizard rising from the sand, running across it then disappearing into it. Perhaps something like an animation. That's pretty cool too.
The thorns made all the difference in making them stick out. It certainly took some time to make all of them. But in the end it was worth it.
It still looks a bit rough around the edges. But I ran out of mache and time. ;D
Ah well.....when I take it home I'll consider painting the devils in all their splendor.
So yeah; this is why I haven't drawn much. I'm sculpting. And it took a few weeks to get it done; which in reality was a month due to me not working on it every night for work and other class-related reasons.
